Vuelta - Other Markets

A selection of other random bets

Vuelta16 Route MapHere's a selection of other bets that caught my eye for the Vuelta, there's not as many bets available as in the Tour de France but there's still a few of interest.

Top 10 Finish

Only two riders really caught my eye for this - Andrew Talansky at 5/6 and Louis Meintjes at 6/4 with Betfair Sportsbook. I think, as you know already, that Talansky is primed for a big ride in this race and I think he is well capable of a top ten placing against this field. He will have a decent team supporting him and even if he is on the border of a top ten place late in the race I think he could take minutes out of some of his rivals in the TT to climb in to the top 10. 3pts win at 5/6

Louis Meintjes showed in the Tour that he is getting up there with the best in the world now and looks a Grand Tour winner in the making. 8th in the GC in the Tour, 2nd in the Youth Classification, he was remarkably consistent and rode superbly well. The small worry is that it took a lot out of him, and Lampre did say in their team announcement press release that they were going stage hunting, but even so, against this field he may be capable of a top ten finish. Not big stakes on him though, just for an interest. 1pt win at 6/4

Over/Under Stage Wins

Chaves to win 2 stages or more - 2pts at 5/6 with Bet365.. He won two stages last year, and I think there are several stages that suit him really well again this year. Hopefully he'll land one in the first half of the race with all those summit finishes around the rest day, so he has a chance of landing the bet later in the race.

John Darwin Atapuma to win a stage - 2pts at 6/4 with Bet365 - I think he's capable of taking a stage win, he came very close on a few occassions in the Vuelta, and took a fine stage win in the TDS. There are lots of summit finishes that should suit him, and even the Queen stage to the Col d'Aubisque looks like a kind of day for an Atapuma breakaway.

Philippe Gilbert NOT to win a stage - 5pts at 4/5 with Bet365 - this is one I like a lot.. Gilbert might get in some breaks, but I really don't see any stages that suit him massively. There are no real uphill finishes for puncheurs, they are either brutally steep or flat. He has also just secured his exit ticket from BMC, having signed for Etixx-QS, so I'm not sure the motivation will be there either.
