Verbania - Alpe Motta

Saturday 29th May, 164kms

Giro2021 St20 What a brute they have lined up for the final test of the climbers endurance. A flat opening 80kms, where they cross in to Switzerland, then straight up for the next 26kms to the top of the Bernardino Pass.

Giro d'Italia St 19

Abbiategrasso - Alpe Di Mera

Friday 28th May, 176kms

Giro19 St19 ProfileBack in to the high mountains again with another tough stage, but not the toughest of the race, on paper anyway, but does finish with a bang on the Alpe di Mera, a climb making its debut in the race.

Giro d'Italia St 18

Rovereto - Stradella

Thursday 27th May, 231kms

Santa Maria Di SalaA mini rest day ahead of the final push. An easy stage along the Po Plains, with a few bumps near the finish to maybe give us an interesting finish. Don't expect any GC action today, they will all be thinking of the 3 days to come..

Giro d'Italia St 17

Canazei - Sega Di Ala

Wed. 26th May, 193kms

Giro2020 St17 CampiglioThe first of three summit finishes in the next four stages, this is a game of two halves as they say, or even three thirds.. The first third is more or less downhill, a third on flat roads and then two Cat 1s to finish the stage.

Giro d'Italia St 16

Sacile - Cortina d'Ampezzo

Monday 24th May, 212kms

Giro2020 St16 SanDanielYet another 'Queen stage' according to the roadbook, that's the third I make it so far.. but this one probably merits more than the others so far, it's a beast and one that Simon Yates has said "looks filthy".. he's not wrong!

Giro d'Italia St.15

Grado - Gorizia

Sunday 23rd May, 147kms

Giro18 st15 sappada This is a strange stage they've dropped in to the middle of two tough stages in the Alps. Partly raced in Italy, partly in Slovenia, it's more like a stage of the Tour of Slovenia or Romandie with a circuit feel to it as they pass over the same hill three times in total.

Giro d'Italia St 14

Cittadella - Monte Zoncolan

Saturday 22nd May, 205kms

Monte Zoncolan

From the flattest stage of the race we suddenly rise in to the clouds with the beast that is the Monte Zoncolan! The weekend opens with a bang with a stage split in to two parts, the first 130kms or so a flat warmup, the last 73 see them take on two tough climbs, including the Cat 1 finish.

Giro d'Italia St 13

Ravenna - Verona

Thurs 21st May, 198Km

VeronaThis stage looks like a boring waste of 5 hours, but should the winds blow in off the Adriatic, we could be in for a more interesting stage.. But it's unlikely we'll see much drama with the mountains looming on the horizon, most will treat this as a rest day, before a bunch gallop in Verona

Giro d'Italia St 12

Siena - Bagnna Di Romanga

Thurs 20th May, 212Km

pineroloBreakaway day! Well it certainly looks like it, with a lot of the GC men and their teams licking their wounds after yesterday's brute of a stage and a profile that should favour a break getting away, building a big lead and staying away.

Giro d'Italia St 11

Perugia - Montalicino

Wednesday 19th May, 162kms

Rimini

Now this is more interesting! The Giro should really explode in to life on the first day back after the rest day, with a bonkers stage more like Strade Bianche. 2,500m of climbing and over 35kms of sterrati should really separate the men from the boys.

Giro d'Italia St 10

L'Aquila - Foligno

Monday 17th May, 139km

Giro18 st10 Gualdo tadinoNot a great stage, but at least it's short! Only 139kms, and the day before the rest day, on a day that normally would be a rest day, a Monday. I think a lot of the riders will be treating this as an extra rest day and coast to a sprint finish.

Foggia - Guardia Sanframondi

Sat 15th May, 170kms

brindisiThe first of two interesting weekend stages, with a stage made for a breakaway. They head west from Foggia and in to the Matese Regional Park, with a big, 20km lump to get over in the middle of the stage and an uphill run to the line for the last 12kms.

laquilaA day after the first summit finish and shake up in the GC, we're back to a sprint stage again as they continue to head south along the coast. But it's a far cry from the last sprint stage with a number of hills to get over along the way to an uphill finish.

Giro d'Italia St 5

Modena - Cattolica

Wed 14th May, 175kms

Etna Piano provenzanaThis stage could quite possibly be one of the most boring races we're going to have to endure all year. And it's live from the very start! The highest point on the course is 67m and it's almost pan flat and dead straight all the way from Modena to Cattolica.

Giro d'Italia St 4

Piacenzo - Sestola

Tuesday 11th May, 186kms

AgrigentoA stage of two halves, as they head south-east in an almost dead straight, dead flat run to Parma and to the foothills of the Apennines for 78kms. From there on though it's a different matter entirely as there's barely a flat metre for the next 106kms.

Giro d'Italia St 3

Biella - Canale

Monday 10th May, 187kms

NovaraAn interesting stage that takes them south across some of the route of stage 2 and through the vinyards of the Asti in the Po Valley. It starts benign enough, but ends with quite a lumpy final 75kms as they enter the foothills of the Appenines.

Giro d'Italia St 2

Stupinigi - Novara

Sunday 9th May, 179kms

AgrigentoThe Giro stays in Piemonte for a flat stage to Novara, and it looks like a perfect one for the sprinters to get off the mark on. It will be the first time we will see Dylan Groenewegen sprint since that terrible incident at the Tour of Poland.

Evenepoel and BernalThe first two in this competition last year finished 1-2 in the GC, with only 39" separating them, with Joao Almeida just over 2 minutes further back in 3rd. A pretty amazing stat that 3 of the first 4 home were under 25 years of age.

Ineos Giro 2020Team classification - a tricky market to work out - you need to try to find a team that will score three guys high up the results in every stage, as it's the aggregate time of the top three finishers every stage added together that decides this competition.
