Giro Miscellaneous Markets

A selection of other bets that caught my eye!

Giro-logoI've done the Favourites and the Outsiders and who I think will win the Maglia Rosa, the Sprints jersey, the KOM jersey, the Young Riders jersey and the Team Classification. This particular page will just be a collection of other miscellaneous markets that I see bets I like in, updated throughout the Giro.

This section is going to be a bit random and quickfire without huge amounts of explanation, I'm just going to go through some of the many random, miscellaneous markets that are out there for the Giro and give my thoughts on them. Some of them are bizarre and obscure and won't be everyone's idea of a bet, but I'll jot down my thoughts anyway as the race goes on. I'll add the latest thoughts blog-style at the top as we go along. If there are any markets out there that you would like me to think about just add a note to the comments section below.

Top 10 Finish

Not a great deal of value in this one for most, there was a market for NOT to finish in the Top 10 with Bet365 a few days ago but annoyingly and inexplicably they have pulled it again. Some quick thought:

Porte at 1/3 looks a cracking way to earn 33% on your money over three weeks. Dangers are he crashes or has a REALLY bad day... One for those with deep pockets.

Stefan Kruijswijk at 2/1 might be worth a bet - he had been training for four weeks in Tenerife on the mountains, and was going really well (according to Strava) and he then went to Yorkshire where he finished 9th with the leaders on that very tough final stage. With Bennett out the team will be putting even more pressure for a good news story from their leader and I think he could have a good Tour - 8th to 10th is possible.

Damiano Caruso maybe at 7/4 too, he rarely gets a chance to lead like this and could go well. Not a big vote of confidence, but if you think he can go well, that could be worth taking, he won't top 3 it, probably not even top 6.

Top 6 Finish

This is only available on Betfair and the liquidity is too poor to recommend a bet. Might update it as the race unfolds and riders move around in price a bit.

Lanterne Rouge

This is a very unusual market, one I don't think I've seen before, but the Paddy Power trader must have been really bored during the week as he has come up with all sorts of weird and wonderful markets!

Ji Cheng has started two Grand Tours and has finished last in both of them.. he was 8/1 earlier in the week but is just 5/1 now. This could be worth a bet but it really is a random market and anything could happen - a rider could crash but soldier on to the finish with a broken rib or something and finish last. Ramon Caretero is second favorite at 9/1 and to be honest, I'd never even heard of him. Rides for SouthEast, he's a 24 yr old Panamanian who recently did the Tour of Turkey and finished in the bottom 20 on practically every stage and 12th last on the GC. The thing you need to keep in mind about this market though is the rider HAS TO FINISH in order to win the Lanterne Rouge, I don't know if Caretero will even finish.. I'm staying away from this market I think..

Straight Forecast

PP have priced this up and obviously its Contador/Porte and Porte/Contador that are the two favourites, with not much between them. C/P is 7/2, P/C is 5/1. Porte/Uran is 25/1, that might be an interesting price for the two time-triallists if anything happened to Contador.. Contador/Aru is 9/1 and that looks a bit more tempting after the TTT results today.

Overall Head to Heads

These are bets between two riders as to who will come out on top at the end of the race.. A lot are very hard to call and a lot are not very good value, but here are my thoughts on a few:

Maxime Monfort Vs Sylwester Szmyd - Monfort is Mr Consistency when it comes to GCs in big races, Szmyd may have gone well in the tour of Croatia recently but this is a different league altogether. Monfort should be good enough for a top 20, I don't think Szmyd will be in the top 40. 2pts at 8/11 on Monfort

Uran Vs Aru - I've explained who I think will come out on top in this duel in my Favourites preview, Uran should be too good for Aru, 2pts at 8/15, plus 1pt double with Monfort at 13/8 with PP.

Bike of the Winner?
Yes - you read that right, there is a market on Bike of the Winner, with Specialized now the 2/5 favourite (Contador, Aru and Uran ride Specialized), Pinerello is 5/2 (Porte, Konig), Canyon is 18/1 (Zakarin) and Focus is also 18/1 (Pozzovivo). It looks like a mortgage job on Specialized at 2/5 if you don't fancy Porte, get on it. The thing is I fancy Porte so I won't be backing that just yet. And I'd rather back him at 3/1 as I can't see anyone else on a Pinarello winning

Rider Stage Wins - How many stage wins will these riders achieve?

Damiano Cunego - no stage win - 3/10 - I'd like to recommend 10 points on this, I'm that confident he won't win a stage, but I'll keep it to 5pts in case.. But I think it's free money.

Elia Viviani - no stage wins - 8/13 - I just have a feeling Viv will be left on his own to chase stage wins and he will find it difficult on the flat stages and will not win the hilly sprint stages. The only chance might be if he makes it to Milan but the likes of Greipel or Nizzolo don't . I recommend 2pts on this at 8/13.

Giovani Visconti - no stage wins - 8/13 - I can't see Visconti winning a stage at all. 2pts at 8/13

Richie Porte - 1 stage win or more - 4/7 - I've been told that Richie is absolutely flying and that he could run riot in the big stages.. I think he will take at least one stage along the way, possibly even the TT, and at 4/7 he is worth a bet. 3.5pts win at 4/7

Sacha Modolo - 1 stage win or more - evens - I think Modolo could win a stage in this race, possibly even the first sprint stage. It's not a big bet though but worth a go at evens. 1pt at evens

Ryder Hesjedal - no stage wins - 2/5 - this is free money I think, can't see it happening. 3pts at 2/5

King of the Mountains Head to Head -

Anton to beat Landa - I think Anton could do well in the KOM competition, not sure about Landa - so Anton at 13/8 is a bet I like. 2pts at 13/8

More will be added as I see bets that interest me.
